Maritime Μuseum of Crete

Shipyard of Moro (Permanent Exhibition of Ancient & Traditional Shipbuilding)

An important step in the development of the Museum is the concession by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture one of the Venetian Shipyards of Moro in the old harbor of Chania for the creation of the permanent exhibition. Partial restoration of the Shipyard was carried out with the assistance of organizations and individuals who responded to a relevant appeal by the Museum.

The main exhibit is the representative ship model of Minoan era, reconstructed, the experimental model, the tools and materials used, as well as a full range of photographs showing the construction stages and the experimental voyage.

The permanent exhibition of traditional shipbuilding, in which are presented small models of traditional boats, tools of old boats, trousers, navy knots, etc., also operates in Shipyard of Moro.
