Panagia Paraportiani (Our Lady of the Side Gate) is a special attraction of Mykonos and one of the most important monuments of the Aegean. Its particularity lies in the fact that is not just a single church but a complex of five churches, that was built between the 16th and 17th century and has been shaped by time and the sea, ever since.

At the lowest part of the complex the visitor can see the four churches while the church of Panagia Paraportiani rises on top.  Its name comes from the location where it is built, the northwestern gate of the medieval wall of Mykonos: the “paraporti” (side gate).

Wandering around Chora, don’t forget to drop by, admire and photograph this architecturally distinctive Cycladic church.
