Imerovigli sits on the highest point of the Caldera. It is also a traditional settlement, just like Oia. Because of its location, Imerovigli makes for a great observatory with a view to the volcano and the Caldera. It is also said that its name comes from the words “imera” (day) and “vigla” (observatory), as from 1207 AC the area hosted the Castle of Skaros, which was used as a watchtower.

Today, the Skaros Rock carries the ruins of the medieval castle which was destroyed by an earthquake, hundreds of years later.

The aura of the village is purely Cycladic, radiating a calm vibe.
