ΤPatras Castle was built in the second half of the 6th century AD on the ruins of the ancient Acropolis. It was built by Justinian after the catastrophic earthquake of 551 using materials of pre-Christian buildings to protect the area and its inhabitants. 
This historical relic is located on a low hill of Panachaicon at a distance of approximately 800 meters from the shore. The impressive walls enclose an area of 22,725 sq.m. which includes a triangular outer yard, reinforced with towers and bastions, inspiring awe to all visitors.
