14/02/2012 MINOAN LINES PIRAEUS – CHANIA – PIRAEUS WITH TWO ULTRA-MODERN GREEK VESSELS H/S/S EUROPA PALACE & H/S/F OLYMPIA PALACE

Following the application request of Minoan Lines for the deployment of its two state of the art Greek vessels H/S/F EUROPA PALACE and H/S/F OLYMPIA PALACE on the Piraeus – Chania – Piraeus route, the management of the company considers that it is its obligation to inform all passengers with the following:

The aforementioned vessels, sister ones of H/S/F KNOSSOS PALACE and H/S/F FESTOS PALACE, which operate on the Heraklion – Piraeus – Heraklion route, are the largest, fastest and more luxurious vessels in their category.  Their building was completed in 2002 and 2011 respectively, in relation to the two ships of ANEK LINES, “ELYROS” (built in 1998 – 14 years old) and “LATO” (built in 1975 – 37 years old), which currently serve the route Piraeus – Chania – Piraeus alternately.

With this new business movement initiative, MINOAN LINES aims to:

1. The creation, amid recession, of additional job positions, taking into consideration that the under Greek flag vessels H/S/F EUROPA PALACE and H/S/F OLYMPIA PALACE will be manned by Greek seamen, while the launching of this new line will offer opportunities for further jobs both at the town and the port of Chania.
2. The increase of tourism traffic volumes to Chania via an international transport network, which only Minoan Lines offers in Greece, as a member of one of the largest Sea Transport Groups in Europe.
3. The observance of the free competition principles, as defined by the European Union, for the restoration of the competitive market conditions with the aim of achieving economic growth and enhancing social prosperity and welfare.

Therefore, the management of MINOAN LINES trusts that the submitted application requests for the deployment of its two ultra-modern, state of the art twin vessels H/S/F EUROPA PALACE and H/S/F OLYMPIA PALACE on the said route as of April 1st, 2012, will receive positive acceptance by the Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Shipping due to the upgrading of provided services to the passengers and the commercial industry as well as further strengthening of the healthy competition.
